The battle rages between Alexis Lebrun and Simon Gauzy for a place in singles

The battle for second place in the singles table tennis tournament at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games is raging. If France has two places in singles thanks to its participation as a team, the choice of players is usually made with the world ranking, recalls Ouest-France. With his 5th place, Félix Lebrun is practically guaranteed to be there, but behind the battle rages between his little brother, Alexis, and Simon Gauzy.

Alexis Lebrun, 22nd, will soon even be overtaken by Simon Gauzy, currently 30th, thanks to the ranking over the last 12 months. The youngest of the Lebrun siblings, who had gained the upper hand over Gauzy, will lose the points from his very good month of April 2023, i.e. 525 points out of the 1,068 he holds today.

Unlike Simon Gauzy who thanks to his quarter-final at the WTT Champion in Incheon took 85 points from Alexis Lebrun. This will allow him to move ahead of him in the world rankings from April 23.

A little over three months before the start of the 2024 Olympics (July 26 – August 11), the cards are completely reshuffled, and the two table tennis players have very few opportunities to reverse the trend. The Grand Smash in Saudi Arabia, at the beginning of May, then the Champions of Chongqing, at the end of May, will be crucial to seek a participation in singles.
