“The Bachelors”
Polite Hanseatic versus robust Allgäu
Two bachelors, 30 women, two yellow roses and a retreat: “The Bachelors” started on RTL.
If you haven’t noticed yet: This year “The Bachelor” is called “The Bachelors” (Wednesdays at 8:15 p.m., also on RTL+). Two bachelors are looking for their dream woman: Sebastian Klaus (35) and Dennis Gries (30).
Visually similar, different in character
Visually, the two bachelors don’t take much from each other. Dark hair, dark eyes, beginnings of a stubble, sporty, muscular. The phenotypic preferences of the 30 candidates regarding hair and eye color do not initially play a role in the duel.
However, when you look closely, the Bachelors differ in character. The Hamburg real estate manager Sebastian is Hanseatic reserved and a family man. The extroverted gym owner Dennis is a robust Allgäu native, vocally a Bastian Schweinsteiger double. They both seem likeable.
Doubling the bachelor’s degree is not enough. There is another serious change in the new season. Before they go to Cape Town, Dennis and Sebastian get to know their rose candidates in Germany. Every bachelor is allowed/must go on 15 flash dates. But he only has eleven roses. So a first selection. However, the selection of women is not binding for the course of the season. A participant who was given a rose by Dennis can also choose Sebastian later. And vice versa.
Speed dating in a natural habitat
The bachelors get to know the women in their respective environments. After typical activities, they must raise or lower their thumb. Dennis gets to smash cars with Lisa G. (28) (Rose), throw paint bombs on screens with Jessica (26) (Rose) and lay tarot cards with Stephanie (28) (no rose).
Sebastian is at dog training with Ina (28) (no Rose) or is dating Selin (26) in the dark (Rose). Mina (26) gets a ticket to South Africa for her birthday, even though she places Egypt there.
“The hash in the bag”: First meeting of the bachelors
The speed dating is quickly reeled off by the director. Not every candidate gets the same screen time at the start. Then we go to Cape Town. The bachelors meet there for the first time. Dennis’ first impression: “The hash in the bag.” For Sebastian, “not great competition.”
This season, for dramaturgical reasons, the obligatory limousine right-of-way is missing. The women meet directly in the villa. The names Dennis and Sebastian keep coming up in conversation. Huh? The penny slowly drops: “There are two.” When the bachelors meet their chosen ones, no one is surprised anymore.
Yellow roses for the first single date
The obligatory first awarding of red roses is logically no longer necessary. But there is one yellow rose for each bachelor. It is the ticket to the first one-on-one date. Sebastian chooses bridal stylist Leonie (28), even though he had already spoken to her in detail at the party. So a first favorite.
Dennis doesn’t give the yellow flower to Katja (28), with whom he previously danced exuberantly. Instead, he wants to get to know quiet Rebecca (27) better. So both bachelors decide on “their” wives. Nobody fishes in each other’s territory. The only conflict appears when Sebastian’s chosen one, Laura (23), aggressively hits on Dennis (“I like you”).
The first withdrawal has already occurred. Sebastian’s Mina belatedly realized that she was still attached to her ex. She leaves Egypt, er Cape Town.
