The number of pensioners over 65 in Bavaria last year grew by 1.1 percent to 2.72 million. According to the State Office for Statistics, they received a total of more than 46 billion euros from statutory, private or company pension schemes, or an average of just under 17,000 euros.
The statutory pension insurance paid men an average of 17,068 euros and women 13,561 euros, as the state office announced on Friday. Farmers received an average of around 6,000 euros a year from the agricultural old-age fund. Physicians, pharmacists, lawyers and other freelancers drew pensions from professional pension institutions – on average 30,560 euros for men and 20,751 euros for women.
In addition, about a third of those over 65 received benefits from private pension insurance or company pension schemes. The average payout amount was around 4400 euros.
