The government has decided to whistle the end of the recreation concerning urban rodeos, by tightening the legislation within the framework of the orientation and programming law of the Ministry of the Interior. Thus, the Assembly adopted, with 74 votes for and 0 against, the possibility of confiscating the vehicles of “urban rodeo practitioners”, even when they were not used during the offence.
According to the authors of the Renaissance and Horizons amendments, it is also a question of being able to sanction “the author of the rodeo who is not the owner of the machine”, the latter escaping “as the current law of confiscation stands” from ‘a vehicle. The measure is in addition to a series of provisions introduced by the Senate, widely adopted Thursday by the deputies (74 for against 5), which reinforce the penalties for the authors of motorized rodeos or refusal to comply, but also for the authors of violence against elected officials, aligned with those planned for attacks against the police.
The “buffer” method remains on the sidelines
The Assembly, on the other hand, rejected amendments from the RN, asking to include in the law a legal framework to authorize the police to use “tactical contact”, a technique also known as “buffer”, to attack perpetrators of rodeos or refusal to comply. “The British method has paid off,” argued RN MP Michaël Taverne. “We have to send a message, whistle the end of recess”, he added, affirming that instructions currently prohibited the police “from going to the arrest of these speeders”.
