The artist Wilhelm Koch and his Glyptothek – Munich

Wilhelm Koch, artist and founder of the Air Museum, has once again changed the plans for the Glyptothek planned for Etsdorf.

Wilhelm Koch is an artist, founder of the Amberg Air Museum and a successful, award-winning publisher. Since 2000 he has been planning to build a Glyptothek in his home village of Etsdorf (district of Amberg-Sulzbach), a monument to 2500 years of democracy and the European idea. A support association and a specially established foundation have been committed to the temple for years. What is missing is money. In the village’s former elementary school, which the “Friends of the Glyptothek” association saved from demolition and renovated, a temple museum has found its place, which regularly shows exhibitions with contemporary artists. Since October last year, there has also been a 2.70 meter high equestrian statue of the former Chancellor on the meadow in front of the museum, one of Wilhelm Koch’s rare realistic works.
