The arrival of Pope Francis in Marseille leaves a hole of 500,000 euros in the coffers

After the celebrations, it’s time for the painful. Ten days after Pope Francis came to Marseille, the diocese launched an appeal for donations to cover the hole of 500,000 euros left in their budget by the event.

In their press release, the diocese explains that the total budget for the Mediterranean Meetings amounted to 2.3 million euros, half financed by patrons and partners. Of the remaining 1.1 million euros, around 600,000 euros have already been collected during the event. The hole in the racket can be explained by less generosity than expected during the giant mass at the Vélodrome.
