Several left-wing personalities hostile to Nupes, including ex-President François Hollande and ex-Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, met on Tuesday evening around a dinner to try to “work together” and propose an “alternative” politics, we learned from one participant.
This meeting brought together more than twenty participants from the political and associative world, in particular the first deputy secretary of the PS Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, Guillaume Lacroix, the president of the PRG, told AFP, confirming information from the JDD.
“A joint initiative” could see the light of day “in the coming weeks”, perhaps in the form of a working meeting or a joint meeting, which some have wished for, he specified.
Against the Nupes
The dinner was organized on the initiative of the Lab de la Social-Democratie, the club of the former director of Release Laurent Joffrin, the ex-first secretary of the PS Jean-Christophe Cambadélis and the ex-mayor of Grenoble Michel Destot. Also participating in this meeting the mayor of Le Mans Stéphane le Foll or the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin Hélène Geoffroy. The president of the Occitanie region Carole Delgas was represented by a relative.
All the participants have in common to oppose the agreement of the New popular ecological and social union (Nupes), concluded in May 2022 between LFI, the PS, the PCF and EELV. Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol and Hélène Geoffroy, who represent two currents of the PS, opposed during the last congress of the PS to the first secretary Olivier Faure on the question of Nupes.
A “state of affairs”
For Guillaume Lacroix, it was “an inventory dinner”, between “lack of a satisfactory democratic outcome” after the retirement sequence, and “lack of political alternative from the camp which is ours”, he said. -He specifies. “We’ve all known each other for twenty years,” he added. “The objective was to see if everyone agreed to work together and how everyone wants to converge”, to “imagine a political alternative”.
For the boss of the PRG the solution is in “The Convention”, the movement created by Bernard Cazeneuve, who left the PS, following the Nupes agreement. The movement, launched in February, has already collected nearly 4,000 members and allows dual membership with a political party.
Some of the dinner actors have already made the move to join the movement, but not all. Lacroix recalled that the PRG would present a list in the European elections, but that it was “ready to expand it”.
