The angry Guillotière association dissolves and accuses the municipality of turning a deaf ear

The angry Guillotière does not take off, but she throws in the towel. This collective of residents created in 2019, very active since the confinements and the increase in insecurity which followed in the Guillotière district, 7th arrondissement of Lyon, decided on Tuesday to dissolve. “Like the hummingbird, we have largely done our part, despite the contempt and denial of elected officials disconnected from reality”, as the collective indicates in a press release.

Led by the very combative Nathalie Balmat, the angry Guillotière has gone to the front several times this year. To denounce the uncontrolled markets and the trafficking of cigarettes on Place Gabriel-Péri, the urinals, the uncontrolled waste disposal centres, the overflowing sorting bins, the insalubrity of a very busy district.

“We fought tirelessly against the lies and especially the denial of the authorities of yesterday or today, faced with the extremely serious situation of a district which was only getting worse from week to week”, recalls the press release.

The association had contributed to the establishment of a BST

The angry Guillotière denounced above all the “contempt” of the ecological municipality and the metropolis of Lyon, accused of turning “a deaf ear to all our requests, refusing any dialogue and meeting”, and of only proposing endless consultations instead quick actions.

However, a battle had been won. Last November, the Casino supermarket on Place Gabriel-Péri decided to close early to protect its staff. Alerted by reminders from the association, the State had set up a specialized brigade in February to patrol between Guillotière and Part-Dieu. Despite a notable improvement, the incivilities resumed as soon as the police had their backs turned.

A House of Projects has just opened, grand-rue de la Guillotière, which will be “without a doubt a place of entry to raise your grievances”, adds the press release. The association invites local residents to continue to write to the City, and to the town halls of the 3rd and 7th arrondissements, to assert their rights. “Make yourself heard! “, she concludes.
