The alleged attacker of Yvan Colonna has been indicted for “attempted assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise”, a judicial source told franceinfo on Sunday March 6. Franck Elong Abe, 35, who was already serving several sentences in Arles prison (Bouches-du-Rhône), was remanded in custody as part of this judicial investigation, also opened for “terrorist criminal association”.

Wednesday March 2 in the morning, Yvan Colonna was violently assaulted by a fellow prisoner in Arles prison. The 61-year-old Corsican separatist is still in a coma on Sunday, the prosecutor confirmed. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment for the assassination of the prefect of Corsica, Claude Erignac, in 1998. “Once again, Islamist fanaticism is behind a terrorist crime in our country,” said Jean-François Ricard, public prosecutor at the head of the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat), during a press conference.
