The allegation of unfaithfulness is added to the suspicion of fraud – Bavaria

Seeg’s mayor is said not only to have cheated the nursing care fund with bogus bills, but also to have diverted almost 1.4 million euros to the detriment of the local Caritas Foundation.

There are new allegations against the mayor of the Swabian municipality of Seeg, who is in custody on suspicion of fraud. The Attorney General’s Office is now accusing him of infidelity. “In our opinion, there is an urgent suspicion that the mayor of Seeg has embezzled almost 1.4 million euros to the detriment of the Caritas Foundation Seeg e.V.,” said senior public prosecutor Matthias Held from the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Fraud and Corruption in health care (ZKG) on Monday. The Bayerischer Rundfunk had reported first.

The acts are said to have been committed in favor of the mayor personally or a company controlled by him. Half a million euros are said to have flowed directly into the mayor’s pockets. Because of the further allegations, a new arrest warrant had also been requested from the Nuremberg district court because of the allegation of infidelity, said Held.

The Seeger town hall boss Markus Berktold (CSU) has been in custody for about six months on suspicion of care fraud in the millions. Between May 2020 and June 2022, Berktold and a nursing home manager are said to have repeatedly created sham invoices for the home and a nursing service and thus wrongly charged the nursing care insurance fund for the reimbursement of additional corona-related expenses. They are said to have acted commercially and, according to the existing arrest warrant, received more than 1.1 million euros from the “care rescue package” created in the corona pandemic. The head of the home is said to have embezzled more than 110,000 euros in company funds by the end of 2021 through bogus invoices.
