Sexual violencecase

The actor and comedian was indicted for rape in November 2021, before being placed under the more favorable status of assisted witness.

Accused of rape, actor Ary Abittan benefited from a dismissal of charges on Tuesday April 2, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced this Wednesday. An expected decision, while the actor had obtained in July 2023 the abandonment of his indictment. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Me Charlotte Plantin, announced this Wednesday that she would appeal the dismissal.

Now aged 50, Ary Abittan was indicted and placed under judicial supervision in November 2021, after a complaint filed by a woman in Paris. The latter, then aged 23, accused him of having raped her during an evening spent at his home, on October 30, 2021. The young woman, who had been seeing the actor for two months at the time of the alleged facts, accused of having imposed sodomy on him. She filed a complaint the same night.

If several elements – vaginal and anal lesions medically noted, messages sent by the complainant to her friends or even blood on the bath towel seized from the actor’s home – had led to the indictment of Ary Abittan, other elements were then “likely to weaken the probative value of the clues initially retained”, judged in the following months. In July 2023, the actor known for his role in “What have we done to the Good Lord?” was finally placed under the status of assisted witness.
