1 – Dare the No Tree trend
The best way to make your tree a success is sometimes… to do without it! There’s nothing like a tree that’s too big, crushed against the wall or lurking under the stairs to ruin its entire effect. If you’re short on space at home, it’s smart to choose an alternative – and there’s no shortage of them, especially this year, when the “no tree” trend is in full swing.
Among the alternatives to the traditional tree: the folded paper model in XXL format, the wall model or even a simple bouquet of branches in a vase or in a plant pot.
2 – Forget traditional garlands
This year, it’s decided: we forget the traditional garlands! Not only are they not very eco-responsible, but they are also very kitsch!
To enhance the tree, we prefer garlands or LED candles and sustainable options such as paper. We also love the DIY option, for example by making a garland made of dried orange slices.
3 – Eliminate cheap decorations
The mistake to avoid at all costs to successfully decorate your tree is to choose “cheap” ornaments. We therefore avoid plastic or parts with rough finishes. And we opt for delicate ornaments, in glass, velvet, silk threads or even fabric embroidered with pearls and sequins.
To play down a decor that is a little too sophisticated, opt for mix and match by integrating straw pieces borrowed from Scandinavian decoration!
4 – Choose your style… or not
Minimalist atmosphere, Scandi inspiration, frosty Christmas… When it comes to looks, the 2023 Christmas trends are spoiled for choice. Before getting started on decorating the tree, take the time to choose your side.
So should Christmas decoration be taken very seriously? Not necessarily ! You can definitely opt for mix and match by combining traditional ornaments with more offbeat patterns!
5 – Adopt trendy colors
Christmas decoration therefore does not escape trends! To make your tree a success, you can choose from the different essential colors this year.
Associated with gold and black or silver, white is the star of Christmas 2023. Red and forest green remain very safe choices, because they are traditional colors which remain very current. For a more contemporary look, we opt for nude colors, powder pink or even blue. If you like colorful party decorations, dare to wear purple.
6 – Integrate the tree into the overall decor
Even the most beautiful fir tree has a strange effect when isolated. To succeed, plan decorative elements that echo its colors.
Throws and cushions are basics that work every time to give a festive feel to your home. And we of course also think about decorating the Christmas table, in particular choosing a tablecloth and tableware in line with the look of the tree!
7 – Starting from the top
The desire is great to grab the decorations and hang them according to your inspiration. To successfully decorate the tree, however, you have to proceed in order!
We start with the garlands – which we install starting from the top and going down. The same goes for ornaments: we hang them going from top to bottom.
8 – Hang ornaments at the right distance
When hanging the ornaments, do not neglect the choice of their location on the branch.
This involves placing the decorations outwards – however avoiding the ends of the branches so that they do not bend. We take the opportunity to eliminate the ugly plastic hooks and replace them with a ribbon or jute string, depending on the look of the tree.
9 – Take a step back
The decoration of the tree must be distributed in a harmonious manner.
To avoid ending up with a bare space here and an overloaded branch there, we therefore remember to take a step back regularly, and observe the tree from different spots!
