The 74-year-old suspect tried in mid-December

The date of the trial is now known, the 74-year-old man will be tried on Thursday, December 14 at the Nanterre court. He had been arrested after the discovery of anti-Semitic inscriptions on the front of a kosher business last Saturday, in Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine).

Pending his trial, he was placed under judicial supervision and was banned from appearing in Levallois-Perret, from getting in touch with the manager of the sandwich shop or from going to his home.

The suspect had “farted a cable”, pleaded his lawyer in court

Placed in police custody, the suspect, a retired Jewish dental technician and owner of the premises targeted by the tags, appeared before the criminal court on Thursday. The man, who appeared on life support, answered the president’s questions in a disjointed manner and invoked potential unpaid rent by the manager of the sandwich shop to explain his action.

His lawyer, Me Ian Knafou, pleaded that his client, presented as “of the Jewish faith and child of a survivor” of the Holocaust, had “freaked a cable”. The court ordered a psychiatric assessment of the defendant, as requested by his counsel.
