With “The 3 Suns” Netflix brings a new mystery thriller series from the “Game of Thrones” makers. Now there are first insights.

Netflix has a first trailer about the eagerly awaited new series from the “Game of Thrones” makers: “The 3 Suns” will be released in January 2024, as was also revealed at an event hosted by the streaming service in Brazil.

In the mystery thriller series by David Benioff (52) and DB Weiss (52) and Alexander Woo, a scientist gets caught up in a conspiracy, according to Netflix. The science fiction epic is an adaptation of the successful trilogy by Chinese author Liu Cixin (59). It is about, among other things, the first contact of mankind with an extraterrestrial civilization.

Lots of stars

The producers of the series include “Knives Out” director Rian Johnson (49) and Brad Pitt (59). The cast includes Jes Hong, Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Jovan Adepo, Alex Sharp, John Bradley, Saamer Usmani, Liam Cunningham, Rosalind Chao and Jonathan Pryce.

In autumn 2020 it was announced that the “Game of Thrones” stars Benioff and Weiss will implement the project for the Netflix streaming service. “Liu Cixin’s trilogy is the most ambitious science fiction series we’ve ever read,” they enthused when announcing their task. The story, which tells of the first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, “takes the reader on an adventure that begins in the 1960s and leads to the end of time, from life on our tiny blue planet to the farthest corners of the universe”.
