The 2024 baccalaureate will open with philosophy on June 18, followed by specialty tests

The bac returns to its initial formula. The specialty tests will not take place in March, but from June 19 to 21, 2024, as Emmanuel Macron announced, according to a document from the Ministry of Education, a copy of which AFP obtained on Thursday. Students in the general and technological sectors will open the examination ball on June 18, with the emblematic first subject: philosophy.

“The philosophy tests are set for Tuesday June 18, 2024 morning, the specialty written tests are set for Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Friday June 21, 2024 and the grand oral from Monday June 24 and no later than July 3, 2024 », Specifies the document.

Dates for first year and professional baccalaureate students

Still according to this schedule, the anticipated written French tests (written French baccalaureate, for first grade classes) will take place on Friday June 14, 2024 morning. The dates of the French oral exam must be set by the academies, between June 24 and July 5, 2024.

The written tests for the professional baccalaureate will take place on June 11 and 14, then from June 18 to 21 and finally from June 24 to 26, 2024. The second group tests (known as “remedial”) for the general and technological baccalaureate, as well as the “pro baccalaureate” control test, will take place in all academies until Thursday July 11, 2024 inclusive. The national patent diploma tests will take place on Thursday June 27 and Friday June 28, 2024.

Reviews of the old version

The baccalaureate mark is now based 40% on continuous assessment and 60% on so-called terminal tests, including specialty tests, philosophy and the grand oral, taken in the final year.

The holding of the baccalaureate specialty tests in March, implemented for the first time in 2023, had sparked controversy. This schedule had been accused of leading to absenteeism and demotivation among certain students in the last term. Gabriel Attal announced at the end of August the postponement of specialty tests from March to June, a decision welcomed by the unions. It remained to detail the course of the tests.
