If people with disabilities need an accompanying person during an inpatient stay in a clinic for medical reasons, this person is also entitled to sick pay for this period from November 1st. This is regulated in the new hospital escort guideline of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA).
“Only patients who receive integration assistance according to Part 2 of SGB IX are entitled to be accompanied. These are usually people with disabilities who already regularly have a need for assistance and support from a trusted reference person in everyday life”, explains the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. This can be extended in individual cases if the accompanying person is required because the patient is in an exceptional situation due to the treatment. The need for accompaniment must be certified by a doctor.
