The Münchner Tafel is happy about around 700 kilograms of chocolate for people in need. FC Bayern Munich suggested the distribution of a chocolate delivery from Switzerland to the aid organization: goalkeeper Yann Sommer had jokingly promised defender Matthijs de Ligt such a large amount of sweets. “He’ll get a truckload of Swiss chocolate from me,” said the Swiss goalkeeper after De Ligt ironed out a mistake he made in the 2-0 Champions League round of 16 win over Paris Saint-Germain. This brought the Swiss chocolate company Kägi onto the scene with an advertising campaign.
Summer’s announcement was taken as an assignment, said spokeswoman Miu Nguyen on Tuesday. The Swiss drove four pallets with around 700 kilograms of chocolate to Munich in a van. After various considerations, the truckload was gladly donated to the Munich charity, said Nguyen. The aid organization supplies more than 23,000 guests with 130,000 kilograms of food every week at 28 distribution points in Munich. “We didn’t know exactly what was behind it – only that it came from Bayern Munich,” said Steffen Horak from the Munich table “Münchner Merkur” and “tz”.
The unexpected delivery was not discussed with the Münchner Tafel in advance, but was of course very welcome as a sweet donation. “We are very happy about the donation, which is of course always very nice,” said Horak on Tuesday of the German Press Agency. Something like this does not belong to the usual products. And of course chocolate is very nice, especially for the more than 7,000 children. “The chocolate is going into our regular distribution this week and we’re making sure all of our 28 dispensaries get some,” Horak said.
