STORY: Interesting aerial footage captured recently by a thermal camera operated by the Marine Authority of Thailand. The images show a leatherback sea turtle laying eggs on a beach in southern Phang Nga province. The animals are sea turtles. They are considered to be the largest living turtle species. Specimens can reach a shell length of up to two and a half meters and a weight of almost 700 kilograms. Leatherback turtles are ocean dwellers and are found primarily in tropical and subtropical seas. They are considered endangered and often get caught in fishermen’s nets or die from eating garbage floating in the sea. For example, plastic bags that they mistake for jellyfish.
