According to police, more than 30 people, including 22 children, were killed in an attack on a kindergarten in northern Thailand. The alleged perpetrator is a former police officer.

A man armed with a knife and firearms stormed into a daycare center in Na Klang, in northern Thailand’s Nong Bua Lamphu province, and opened fire, according to police. At least 34 people were killed in the attack in the north of the country, the police said. At least 22 children were among the dead.

The suspect used to be a police officer

According to the police, the alleged perpetrator is a former police officer who had to resign from service last year for drug-related offenses. The 34-year-old was armed with a rifle, a pistol and a knife. He fled after the attack before shooting himself. Thai media reported that he also previously shot dead his wife and children.

Although many Thais have guns, serious gun attacks are rare in the country.
