Tesvor R5 – powerhouse among the vacuum cleaners

Why just vacuum when you can also mop at the same time? The Tesvor R5 vacuums with a battery and then scrubs with a roller. And with plenty of battery power.

Vacuum cleaners are the next big thing in the household. After cordless vacuum cleaners and robotic vacuum cleaners. Robots actually did it. There have long been devices that vacuum and pull a damp cloth behind them.

A mop vacuum cleaner looks like the classic handheld vacuum cleaner. Our test model, the Testor R5, works of course with battery and water tanks. Why should you buy such a device? Many apartments mostly have a hard floor – the carpeted idyll of the 1980s is passé. And a hard floor just wants to be mopped. Most of the time this is no longer done with a brush, cloth and on your knees, but with a Spanish mob, like that of Vileda. But even without kneeling, you come into contact with the dirty cleaning water. To do this, the entire process must be prepared for and followed up on.

Wet film

This should now be much easier with the Tesvor R5. The device is assembled in a few minutes. The base charges the machine, the tray keeps the wet underside off the ground. There are two tanks in the device. One takes up fresh water, the other takes up the dirt that has been sucked up and the water taken up by a roller. How easy is that now? The large water tank is filled at the tap and then put on. The machine starts to work as soon as the handle is removed from the home position. The suction strength adjusts itself automatically, at individual points you can press a “Max” button. The suction power is great – on smooth floors you can see how the dust particles are attracted towards the vacuum cleaner. The desired wet wiping path is pulled behind the suction cup.

Clean freshness

And the result: On hard floors, vacuuming plus mopping is better than just vacuuming. In this way, all fine dust particles are picked up, especially those that stick to the floor. Seen in this way, the R5 beats every cordless vacuum cleaner. In addition, there is the fresh impression of the moistened floor, i.e. a plus in perceived cleanliness. On top of that, wiping dissolves stains that cannot be vacuumed away. Dry edges from water stains, coffee spills and the like. And unlike most robotic vacuums, which just pull a tired, vibrating fleece behind them, the roller dissolves quite a lot of stains. If they have already dried, you have to go over the spot twice, once to soak and once to pick it up. The battery power should be sufficient for 200 square meters. If that’s true? The endurance of the device is definitely sufficient even for very large apartments. The battery lasts 50 minutes. For comparison: The Regulus Aqua PowerVac specifies 22 minutes or 65 QM, the maximum power of the Leifheit device is 120 watts – that of Tesvor comes to 225 watts. The water tanks are also significantly larger.

So cleaning it up works really well. How about ease? Filling the device is no more difficult than pouring a glass of water. Because the R5 charges in its stand, it can be used for spontaneous actions. A mishap can be eliminated with a flick of the wrist without having to get a mop bucket ready to go. In practice, this is a major advantage. Because you don’t have to get the mop and bucket ready for use first, you wipe a lot more often. After use, the machine requires self-cleaning, then the roller in the stand is combed out and the device is rinsed through once. If you forget that, the machine will periodically call up its hygiene program to avoid bad smells. The dirty water tank can be removed and emptied just as easily. So you can wipe the apartment several times without coming into contact with the water even once. But be careful: The R5 must be placed correctly in the station. The device acknowledges this by beginning the charging process. If you just carelessly put the R5 “somehow” in the bowl, it stays in working mode, then the cleaning water drips out of the bottom of the device – the next morning the bowl of the stand is then full of water.

A wiper not a mop

The cleaning effect corresponds to a mob and not a brush. Really coarse dirt like dried ketchup stains cannot be removed with the R5 in a reasonable amount of time. The device does not scrub like a Kärcher FC7 with its four counter-rotating nylon rollers – but such devices do not vacuum either. Compared to a robot, the effect of the roller when wiping is convincing, the R5 really cleans and provides more than just a fresh film of water. With regular use, you can get the kitchen floor sparkling clean with the machine.

Don’t forget to clean

The device cannot do without service in the long run. First of all, the waste water has to be disposed of regularly. If you suppress that for weeks – vacation – the broth becomes “alive” again – ultimately organic materials also get into the container. Luckily, the dirty water tank has an odor trap, so any stench is effectively trapped.

Depending on how much and what kind of dirt is sucked in, the container and the suction nozzle must be cleaned now and then, because material such as animal or human hair is not completely removed when pouring out. The same applies to the roller and floor pan. The roller can be removed very easily – this is not a matter of course. Then the waste water cup, said nozzle, the roller and its receptacle should be wiped through once. If there are only crumbs in it, it’s very easy, in a household with hairy dogs you have to wipe it off with a kitchen towel. The effort is there, but it is very small. But you shouldn’t completely ignore it.

In principle, the device can also pick up spilled liquids – with a tank capacity of 0.7 liters, the machine naturally does not replace a pump. We would have no qualms about water or tea. We would not wipe up sugary syrup, milk, eggs or the like. The mess in the device is likely to outweigh the benefits.

Impeccable cleanliness

Who is the device for? If you value traceless cleanliness and have a comparatively large amount of hard floor in the apartment, the Tesvor is a good fit. In the case of allergies or even just an aversion to house dust, regular moisture is of great use. In warm weather, floor care creates a feeling of fresh breeze. You can use it to damp wipe the kitchen every day in five minutes. Crumbs, chunks, blobs—unless dried hard—everything will go away. The R5 also needs its own stand for this. Best nearby. One of the main advantages is that “swipe” with the R5 is no longer a state action. The device pays for itself when it is used frequently for small areas. But then it must also be accommodated within reach.

The R5 does not replace a vacuum cleaner in the house. With the device you can only vacuum-wipe floors – for the couch, shag carpets and cobwebs you need another vacuum cleaner. As with many household appliances, the price recommendation for the R5 says nothing about the market price. With special offers it stays Testor R5 a little under 300 euros.
