Tests, isolation … Update on the school health protocol

Faced with the surge in cases of coronavirus in schools, which cause difficulties in particular for parents, the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, announced, Monday evening, an easing
of the school health protocol. The previous protocol, announced only the day before the return to school on January 3 in the press, had been criticized for its complexity and was immediately slightly modified four days later. This Monday, faced with the mess at school, in pharmacies and laboratories, it is on the side of the tests that the executive has once again let go of the ballast. 20 minutes takes stock of what’s new for students under 12, over 12, teachers and school staff.

Pupils under 12 in contact cases

From this Tuesday, students under 12, identified as a contact case, must perform a simple self-test the same day, a second on D + 2 and a third on D + 4. If the first test is negative, a simple sworn statement is sufficient for a return in progress.

These three self-tests will be free, thanks to a certificate issued by the school. But they will continue to be distributed only in pharmacies. In addition, from this Tuesday, parents must no longer pick up their child immediately after they have been in contact, but at the end of the course.

Pupils under 12 positive

Students under 12, tested positive for the coronavirus, must isolate themselves for five days, if the antigen or PCR test carried out on D + 5 is negative and in the absence of symptoms for forty-eight hours. Otherwise, they must isolate themselves for seven days.

Teachers, staff and other students contact cases

For teachers, school staff and students over 12 years fully vaccinated declared contact cases, they do not have to isolate themselves. They must carry out an antigen test or PCR immediately, then a self-test on D + 2 and D + 4. If they are not vaccinated, or their vaccination schedule is incomplete, they must isolate themselves for seven days and perform an antigen or PCR test after their isolation.
