Tests and quarantines, new restrictions on entering Italy from France

To go to Italy from France for the holidays, you would have to show your feet at the border: present a negative test even if you are vaccinated and respect a quarantine if you are not. Faced with the fifth wave of Covid-19, the transalpine authorities are thus putting in place new restrictions which will be in force from Thursday and will remain so until January 31, 2022, indicates the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to proof of a complete vaccination schedule, vaccinated travelers must therefore present the negative result of an antigen test of less than 24 hours or of a PCR test of less than 48 hours. After a first test, the non-vaccinated, them, will have to respect a quarantine of five days, and present a new negative result at the end of this isolation at an address indicated on a traceability form.

The incidence rate lower in Italy than in France

These rules do not apply to children under 6 years old, to frontier workers, for stays of less than 120 hours for professional, health or absolute emergency reasons, or for a transit through Italian territory of less than 36 time.

The incidence rate, i.e. the number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, is currently almost three times higher in France (510) than in Italy (198), where the upward slope of the fifth wave seems to be less steep.
