The search for two RAF terrorists has kept Berlin in suspense for days. After the operation on a trailer site in Friedrichshain on Sunday morning, masked officers went to an apartment in the evening.

The police are searching another apartment in the search for two former RAF terrorists Berlin. The measure in the evening in the Friedrichshain district is connected to the search for Ernst-Volker Staub (69) and Burkhard Garweg (55), a spokeswoman for the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office told the dpa. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported. Officers from the Special Operations Command (SEK) were also involved in the operation.

When asked, the spokeswoman initially did not provide any further details. The measure on Grünberger Strasse is still ongoing, she said. Masked plainclothes police are standing on the street, as a dpa reporter observed. Several dozen onlookers gather on the street to watch the events. There was an armored vehicle on the street.

Only around two kilometers away, the police had already searched parts of a left-wing alternative trailer site during the RAF search that morning. A construction trailer container – according to the Lower Saxony LKA, Garweg’s suspected accommodation – was transported away and is to be examined for forensic purposes.

Just a few days ago, former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette was also arrested in Berlin. Dust and cooking paths had disappeared like Burdock (65) over 30 years ago. All three belonged to the third generation of the former left-wing extremist terrorist organization Red Army Faction.

That was the RAF

The RAF was the epitome of terror and murder in Germany for decades. In 1998 it declared itself dissolved. During the active terror period of the third generation, the then Deutsche Bank boss Alfred Herrhausen (1989) and Treuhand boss Detlev Karsten Rohwedder (1991) were murdered.

There are arrest warrants against Klette, Staub and Garweg on suspicion of involvement in terrorist attacks. They were or are also wanted for several robberies. Between 1999 and 2016 they are said to have robbed money transporters and supermarkets in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. They are also accused of attempted murder because there was a shooting.
