A suspected PKK member was killed in an attack by the Turkish army in northern Iraq. He is said to come from Bavaria.

According to a media report, the Turkish army killed a German citizen in an attack on suspected terrorists. This was reported by the Turkish state news agency Anadolu, citing the Ministry of Defence.

It is said to be a man born in Mainburg, Bavaria. The Foreign Office initially did not comment on the reports.

According to Anadolu, on June 15 in northern Iraq the Turkish army attacked a group of suspected members of the banned Kurdish Workers’ Party PKK, to which the German is said to have belonged. They were “neutralized” by drones, it said.

Ankara regularly takes action against the PKK in south-eastern Turkey and northern Iraq. The PKK is also considered a terrorist organization in the US and Europe. Their headquarters are in the inaccessible Kandil Mountains in northern Iraq.
