Two vehicles collided head-on around 3:40 p.m. near Savignac-les-Ormeaux, near Ax-les-Thermes. The shock was particularly violent on this portion of two-lanes without a central reservation.
An extremely heavy toll
The toll of this terrible accident is particularly heavy. At least six people have died, including two children, the Foix prosecutor’s office announced. Four people, including a child, died in a first vehicle, a Toyota Corolla. The occupants of this car were all French. Two people died in a second vehicle, a Peugeot Expert, registered in Spain.
In all, four people are also injured, two of them in a state of absolute emergency. The toll could rise in the coming hours. The injured were airlifted to Purpan hospital in Toulouse, according to AFP.
Lots of help on site
Many emergency services converged on the scene of the accident. The firefighters are supported by a helicopter. Cops are also on site. The RN20, a very busy axis on the road to Andorra, is cut off. Vehicles are diverted at Ax-les-Thermes. According to our information, the injured were airlifted to the Purpan hospital center in Toulouse.
