Holidaymakers in July will have to be patient on the roads this weekend. Unsurprisingly, traffic will be heavy on all major roads on Friday and Saturday for the official start of school holidays. Smart Bison especially foresees difficulties in the direction of the south and the coastal regions.
In the direction of departures, the day of Friday is classified orange at the national level and red in Ile-de-France, in particular in the afternoon, and in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, that of Saturday red at the national level and black in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Friday, the traffic will be “very difficult in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and in Ile-de-France from the end of the morning”, specifies Bison smart.
Big difficulties in the direction of departures
“The difficulties will be reinforced in the middle of the afternoon around the major cities by the flow of work-home journeys and weekend departures, which are numerous at this time”, details the public road information service, adding that traffic will remain very heavy in the direction of departures until late in the evening.
The biggest slowdowns are expected on Saturday in the direction of departures throughout the territory, in particular on the A7 motorway in the Rhône valley.
Twelve red days
In Île-de-France, traffic will be “very dense towards the toll gates of the A6 (towards the South) and A10 (towards Aquitaine and the West) motorways from the very beginning of the morning”, underlines Bison smart. “The A13 motorway may also experience traffic difficulties from mid-morning. These difficulties could last until mid-afternoon.
The situation will be calmer on the entire road network on Sunday, but difficulties will persist on the A7 motorway in the Rhône Valley in the North-South direction. In total, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion expects 12 red days and one black day over this summer period. For the return from the Ascension Bridge, at the end of May, a day classified as black at the national level, a peak of 934 km of traffic jams had been reached.
