Tens of thousands of X users report global outage

The blue bird, which had already suffered greatly by being renamed X, stopped singing this Thursday. Tens of thousands of global users of the social network formerly known as Twitter have reported problems, monitoring site Downdetector reported.

“User reports indicate issues on X (Twitter),” the site said, adding that these reports began to increase just before 7 a.m. PST. The platform’s news feeds were empty and no new tweets were visible, although the twitter.com website was available and the “spaces” function visible.

An incident that lasted less than an hour

Unable to post on X, social media users reported the incident to competitors like Facebook, Threads and Reddit. The platform resumed service for users in several countries shortly after 7:40 a.m. (French time).

At the height of the incident, Downdetector reported that around 67,000 US users had reported problems. The incident also affected X Pro, formerly known as TweetDeck.

X has not commented

There was no immediate comment from X, echoed by Elon Musk, nor any indication of what caused the incident. X is currently facing headwinds, including a European investigation into alleged breaches of European rules on content moderation and transparency.

The platform is also being criticized for its response to the recent riots in Dublin. A major outage on X was also reported by Downdetector in February, affecting thousands of users.
