After the bitter semi-final exit at the Australian Open, Alexander Zverev can still hope for his first individual tournament victory of the year in Mexico. He is also favored for the next appearance.

Tennis professional has strong nerves Alexander Zverev reached the semifinals at the ATP tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico. The 26-year-old defeated the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 6:3, 6:4 and can still hope for his first individual tournament victory of the year. Zverev fended off all twelve of his opponent’s break points. After almost two hours he converted his third match point.

In the round of the best four, as the top seeded player of the tournament, he will again face an Australian in Jordan Thompson and will go into the game as the favorite. The other semi-final will be contested by Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece and Norway’s Casper Ruud.

At the beginning of February, Zverev canceled his participation in the Davis Cup qualifying round in Hungary due to a viral infection. The world number six had already become ill in Melbourne on his way to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and lost there against the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
