The 26-year-old sat down in his first match, which was difficult on paper, against the world number 19. Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria confidently with 6: 2, 6: 2 through. The next opponent waiting for Zverev at the ATP 1000 hard court tournament is the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka.
You have to “always be there” against Dimitrov, said Zverev afterwards, “and I was that from the beginning to the end. I’m very happy with that”.
Match ended after only 1:11 hours
Zverev, who won the preparatory tournament for the US Open 2021, which starts on August 28th, acted in a concentrated manner and served well. Appropriately, the Hamburg player ended the match after just 1:11 hours with an ace. The Hamburg player apparently digested the significant two-set defeat in Toronto against the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina well. “I played really bad tennis there,” admitted Zverev.
His opponent, on the other hand, made many mistakes, so that Zverev had a solid performance to get through. The match, originally scheduled for Monday, was postponed to Tuesday due to persistent rain.
