The Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik has won the German lawn classic in Halle/Westphalia.

The 26-year-old prevailed in the final on Sunday in the OWL Arena against the Russian Andrei Rublev (25) 6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 3 and celebrated his second tournament victory on the ATP tour. The native Russian had never won a tournament on grass before.

“It means the world to me. I’ve done a lot to achieve that,” said the powerful Bublik, who had already defeated the German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev in two sets in the semifinals on Saturday. He will “definitely” come back next year, added Bublik, who has competed for Kazakhstan since 2016.

The 26-year-old Zverev, on the other hand, has to wait for his first title in Halle. The tournament is considered an important preparation for Wimbledon. The third Grand Slam tournament of the season begins on July 3rd.
