Alexander Zverev remains successful at the United Cup. The chance of winning against France is great.

Alexander Zverev also won his second singles of the new season in three sets and put the German team in the lead in the second preliminary round match at the United Cup. The 26-year-old from Hamburg beat French veteran Adrian Mannarino 4:6, 6:4, 6:3 in Sydney.

After Zverev, dissatisfied, threw his racket on the ground in the middle of the second round, he equalized the set a little later. In the decisive set, the German number one was the better player and served too strong for Mannarino.

Afterwards, the second singles of the former world number one Angelique Kerber in her comeback after the maternity break and the mixed doubles. With a win against France, the team around Kerber and Zverev wants to make it to the quarter-finals.

At the start, Kerber and Zverev together secured the decisive 2-1 win over Italy in the mixed doubles. Kerber had previously lost her singles, and Zverev equalized. The winners of the groups of three teams will surely qualify for the quarter-finals. The United Cup also serves as preparation for the Australian Open in Melbourne. The first Grand Slam tournament of the year begins in two weeks.
