After heavy rain on Friday, the quarter and semi-finals of the tennis tournament in Berlin fall on one day. The semi-finalists come from Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Russia.

Tennis player Maria Sakkari made her sixth semi-final appearance this year at the lawn tournament in Berlin and is hoping for her first tournament success in 2023.

The world number eight from Greece prevailed in the quarterfinals on Saturday 7: 6 (9: 7) and 6: 1 against the Czech Republic Marketa Vondrousova.

In the semi-finals (3:00 p.m./Servus TV), the 27-year-old also meets Donna Vekic from Croatia this Saturday. Vekic won her quarterfinals 6:2 and 7:6 (7:0) against the Russian outsider Jelina Avanessjan.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Russia’s Yekaterina Alexandrova will face off in the second semi-final. The Czech Kvitova prevailed in the quarter-finals with 6: 4 and 7: 6 (7: 3) against the French Caroline Garcia. Aleksandrova moved into the round of the top four without a match. Her compatriot Weronika Kudermetowa had to pull out of the quarter-finals due to injury.

Actually, the quarter-finals should have been played on Friday. But continuous rain prevented the entire game operation and led to the postponement to Saturday. The $850,000 tournament at the LTTC Rot-Weiss is used to prepare for the Grand Slam event in Wimbledon. The final will take place on Sunday in the Steffi Graf Stadium.
