The second day at Wimbledon falls almost completely into the water. No game can be completed on the outdoor courts due to rain. The Germans are also waiting in vain.

had in the morning Alexander Zverev posted a nice little announcement video on Instagram for his first round game against Dutchman Gijs Brouwer. But the Olympic champion in Wimbledon did not go to the tennis court after all.

Because it rained almost the entire day in London, the opening game of Germany’s number one had to be postponed to this Wednesday. It was waiting instead of playing for Zverev and almost all other players.

Because the bad weather lasted all day, the organizers had to postpone a total of 69 matches scheduled for the outdoor courts. This also affected the first round games of last year’s semi-finalist Tatjana Maria against the Romanian Sorana Cirstea, Jule Niemeier against French Open finalist Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic and Tamara Korpatsch against the Canadian Carol Shao.

Hanfmann also has to wait

Yannick Hanfmann was also unable to continue his game against the American Taylor Fritz, which had been canceled on Monday due to darkness. On Wednesday there is a packed tennis program – if the weather cooperates.

“You have to get rid of the time somehow. I always have card games and ‘don’t get angry’ with me,” said Niemeier on the pay TV channel Sky. “In the back of your mind you’re actually already in the hotel,” added the 23-year-old from Dortmund, who completed a short training session in the hall.
