Oscar Otte also lost his third individual for the German tennis team at the Davis Cup in Hamburg. The 29-year-old lost to Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-7 (6-8), 1-6, allowing Australia to equalize in the final group game. Previously, Jan-Lennard Struff had asserted himself confidently against Max Purcell.

So the decision is double. Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz, who are unbeaten in the Davis Cup so far, will meet Wimbledon winners Matthew Ebden/Purcell. The winners win Group C and meet Canada in the quarter-finals in Malaga at the end of November. The second has to deal with the Netherlands.

Kohlschreiber said goodbye to the Davis Cup team

Two and a half months after the end of his career, Philipp Kohlschreiber was dismissed from the Davis Cup team by the German Tennis Association (DTB). DTB President Dietloff von Arnim presented the 38-year-old with a photo collage of his appearances for Germany in Hamburg, and Kohlschreiber was also honored with a compilation of his successes on the video wall of the Center Court at Rothenbaum. “It was a huge journey that I was able to experience. I experienced the most emotional moments in the Davis Cup. I was lucky enough to have played quite well there,” said Kohlschreiber.

The Augsburger ended his career at the end of June after qualifying for Wimbledon. “In total you were nominated 22 times for the Davis Cup. You are one of the players who have played for Germany most often,” said von Arnim. Kohlschreiber has earned nearly $14 million in prize money and won eight tournaments over the 21 years of his career. In the world rankings, position 16 in July 2012 was his best result.
