The weather forecast for the BMW Open doesn’t bode well. Right at the start, the rain disrupted the plans and caused a delay for hours.

As feared, the ATP tennis tournament in Munich has a long one Rain break started. The opening match of the BMW Open between sixth-seeded Briton Jack Draper and Vit Kopriva from the Czech Republic only started three and a half hours late.

Partly drizzle and sometimes heavy rain fell on the clay court in the north of the Bavarian capital. The meteorologists have forecast rainy weather and temperatures in the single digits for the entire tournament week.

The match between former US Open winner Dominik Thiem from Austria and Spanish qualifier Alejandro Moro Canas was also scheduled for Monday. The game between Max Rehberg from Mannheim and Alex Michelsen from the USA was moved from Center Court to a neighboring court and brought forward in order to take advantage of the good weather window in the afternoon. Rudi Molleker (Oranienburg) is also scheduled to play against the Italian Francesco Passaro.

The tournament favorites around top seed Alexander Zverev will only take part in the clay court event later in the week. In addition to the Hamburger, Holger Rune is number two and is one of the main contenders for the title. The Dane had won the BMW Open in the past two years.
