The world number one Carlos Alcaraz is in the semi-finals for the first time at Wimbledon. The 20-year-old Spaniard surprisingly won the youngster duel against the Dane Holger Rune 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 4, 6: 4 and is thus in London for the first time in his tennis career the round of the last four. Alcaraz used a fourth match point after 2:20 hours.

Last year’s US Open champion only had a few difficulties with buddy Rune in the first set. But then the Dane allowed himself to lose concentration while Alcaraz finished the game at a consistently high level. “If you’re in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament, then there are no more friends on the pitch. Then you just have to look at yourself,” said the Spaniard.

Semifinal against Medvedev

In the fight for the final, Alcaraz, who won the tournament in Queens in the run-up to Wimbledon, will face Daniil Medvedev on Friday. The 27-year-old Russian won 6:4, 1:6, 4:6, 7:6 (7:4), 6:1 against the surprise American quarter-finalist Christopher Eubanks, ending the spectacular triumph of the unknown US boys.

Medvedev converted his first match point after 2:57 hours and, like Alcaraz, is in the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the first time. In the other semi-final, record Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia and Italian Jannik Sinner face each other.
