That’s bitter for Jan-Lennard Struff: After a strong season so far, the second-best tennis professional has to do without Wimbledon.

tennis pro Jan-Lennard Struff has canceled his participation in the lawn classic in Wimbledon. The 33-year-old Warsteiner has to pass because of a hip injury. This was confirmed by Struff’s manager, Corrado Tschabuschnig, of the German Press Agency.

The Sauerland will probably have to pause “three to four weeks” because of an overload. “We think he played too much,” said Tschabuschnig. Not participating in the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, which starts on Monday, is a preventive measure.

In very good shape

The failure is particularly bitter because Struff recently presented himself in very good form. At the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, the Davis Cup player even reached the final on grass. At Wimbledon, Struff would have been number 20, just one position behind tennis Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.

Since his performances in Stuttgart, Struff has had hip pain, the manager said. The return is planned for the tournament in Hamburg at the end of July or for the following hard court season.

In Wimbledon, German men’s tennis hopes rest even more on Alexander Zverev. The draw for the grass classic will take place on Friday.
