Ten years ago “Game of Thrones” came on German television – and made many previously unknown actors into stars. They do that now.

On November 2, 2011, an American series celebrated its German premiere on the small pay-TV broadcaster TNT Serie, which had started a good six months earlier on the US broadcaster HBO. Although HBO has stood for quality series since the “Sopranos”, it was not yet clear how big “Game of Thrones” would also be in Germany.

The second season was no longer on the TNT series, but on Sky Atlantic HD. Over the years, based on the books by George RR Martin, the series became a worldwide phenomenon, one of the last campfire series to be talked about globally in the office.

In May 2019, after eight seasons, the fantasy saga ended, which made a number of (almost) unknown actors into stars. For the 10th anniversary in Germany we look at what the most important leading actors of “Game of Thrones” (73) have in the pipeline today.

Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)

“Game of Thrones” was Sophie Turner’s (25) first role. With her role as the mutant Jean Gray in “X-Men: Apocalypse” (2016) and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix”, she made the leap to the big screen. In her upcoming projects, the actress, who calls herself Sophie Belinda Jonas after her marriage to pop star Joe Jonas (32), returns to the smaller screen. In the miniseries “The Staircase” she plays next to top carats like Colin Firth (61) and Toni Colette (49).

Kit Harington (Jon Snow)

At the end of “Game of Thrones”, Kit Harington (34) fell into a hole and sought treatment for alcohol addiction and depression. Meanwhile, the Briton has caught himself. In the cinema he will be part of the Marvel superhero team “Eternals” from November 4th, his first major role since “Game of Thrones”.

Richard Madden (Robb Stark)

Like his colleague Harrington, Richard Madden (35) belongs to the “Eternals” ensemble. The Scot is also on the list of possible new James Bond actors. So it fits well that Madden’s next project will include the series “Citadel”. The story is still a secret, all that is known is that it is supposed to be an action-packed agent series.

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)

Like Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams (24) made her acting debut with “Game of Thrones” Cinemas came. The trained dancer is currently shooting the series “Pistol” – about the creation of the punk band “Sex Pistols”.

Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)

Unlike many co-stars, Peter Dinklage was an established mime even before “Game of Thrones”. The graduate of the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art shot a remake of the play “Cyrano de Bergerac”. In the title role, Dinklage is considered a candidate for an Oscar nomination for best leading actor. He has several projects in the quiver, including a remake of the cult western “The Wild Bunch”. In “The Dwarf” the 1.35-man plays a scheming dwarf at an Italian court.

Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)

With “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (2018) or “Last Christmas”, Emilia Clarke (35) was already working on her post “GoT” career towards the end of the series. But she doesn’t have the really big things on the pan at the moment. For example, the Marvel series “Secret Invasion” and the sci-fi comedy “The Pod Generation” are about a couple who want to have children in the future.
