After the record-breaking temperatures of the last few days, there may now be a sharp drop in temperature. In an interview, ntv meteorologist Björn Alexander reveals how the weather is going.

April does what it wants – that also applies this year. The record-breaking T-shirt weather of the last few days is being followed by a plunge in temperatures. In some regions the thermometer drops almost 20 degrees. ntv meteorologist reveals where the sun will appear again just in time for the weekend Bjorn Alexander.

How long will it be? Early summer to continue in April?

Björn Alexander: It gets noticeably colder towards the middle of the week. The east and south in particular will experience a significant drop in temperature. The decline is greatest in parts of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.

How many degrees are we talking about?

The list of leaders at the start of the week is clearly headed by the South. Munich, Grünwald-Bavaria, Rosenheim or Esslingen am Neckar. On Monday all with peaks of almost 30 degrees. Now, however, the cold front from Deep “Ursula” is straddling the area, causing the temperature to drop by almost 20 degrees in some places and the snow line towards the Alps to fall rapidly.

What does that mean specifically?

On Wednesday night in the south with lows of 3 degrees and continuous rain, which turns into snow at altitudes above 800 meters. And even on Wednesday during the day it will sometimes only be around 10 degrees on the edge of the Alps.

What are the prospects for the rest of the country?

Otherwise, Wednesday will bring us a changeable mix of sun and clouds with a maximum of 16 degrees. And while the south will be partly wet at first and the north later, it will become increasingly nicer in the west and southwest.

And on Thursday and Friday?

The Northern Lights remain on the mixed side, with intermittent rain. The broad middle is friendlier and mostly dry, the south is even often sunny.

At what temperatures?

The values gradually increase and reach 12 to 20 degrees on Thursday and 13 to 23 degrees on Friday. A trend that will continue – at least at the weekend. In principle, optimal timing.

If the sun plays along and the rain stays away. Is that so?

For most of us, yes. As things stand, things are looking pretty good. The southern half is once again in the lead with lots of sun and early summer temperatures of 23 to 26 degrees. When it comes to the Northern Lights it is cloudier, but only the coastal area is occasionally wet at 14 to 18 degrees. All in all, we are well, but not extremely, above the normal values for mid-April.

Despite the drop in temperature, a warm month

Will it stay that way until the end of the month?

Measured against the month as a whole, April brought us a surplus of more than 5 degrees in the first third. This means that it is almost impossible to prevent the month from becoming too warm, which is also underlined by the long-term forecasts with a deviation of 2 to 3 degrees for the month as a whole.

There is a clear difference in between. Where does this come from?

Almost exactly from the middle of the month, i.e. from next Monday, the forecasts are aiming for a change of course in the weather. From Monday onwards the lows will once again intervene abruptly in the weather. Showers will move across the country and may be accompanied by thunderstorms. The sometimes brisk to stormy wind rounds off the April weather interplay and ensures that the maximum values of 7 to 13 degrees feel even fresher. At the same time, late winter greets the mountains. The snowfall limit drops to around 700 meters.

Do we have to prepare for night frost again?

At the moment it is still unclear exactly how cold it will be. But if there is enough for the weather to calm down with a clearing sky, then frost and ground frost will certainly come all the way down to the lowlands. Fruit growers and allotment gardeners with sensitive plants should therefore keep an eye on the exact trends and developments. After all, due to the very warm weather in February and March, nature is still weeks ahead and in some cases correspondingly sensitive to frosty temperatures.
