ZDF: Technical disruptions paralyze media library and programs

Online access to ZDF was not available on Thursday afternoon, and the television program was also not running smoothly. There was still no information about the cause.

Due to a technical malfunction ZDF media library not accessible for hours. There were also effects on the evening’s program, as the public broadcaster in Mainz announced.

The disruption occurred around 1 p.m. In the afternoon around 5:30 p.m. the websites ZDF.de and meine.de were accessible again. However, the program “People Today” planned for 5:45 p.m. should be canceled. The reasons are still unclear.

ZDF’s internet connection was temporarily disrupted. In the evening, the broadcaster announced that the problem had been resolved: “In the early evening, the online portals and apps could gradually be accessed again,” it said in a statement. There were failures in the live streams played via the media library. The media library could not be updated, as it was said in the afternoon.

As a replacement for “People Today” on Thursday afternoon, the preceding “Hello Germany” should last longer. The rest of the evening program should be broadcast as planned.

Short-term program change

ZDF had previously announced that broadcasting operations would not be directly affected. But there was a brief change to the program at midday: instead of the “ZDF lunchtime magazine” an excerpt from an episode of the magazine “plan b” was broadcast from 12:59 p.m. to 1:06 p.m.

The children’s channel was also affected. The broadcaster announced that the Kika program could not be received via the DVB distribution channels for an hour from 12:48 p.m.

The police in Mainz were not aware that there were disruptions beyond ZDF. The city and municipal utilities also reported normal operations in the afternoon. When asked, ARD said its media library was not affected.
