Oliver Masucci plays the murdered Deutsche Bank boss
Alfred Herrhausen was murdered in 1989, and the RAF claimed responsibility. A new series with Oliver Masucci explores the life of the top manager who has recently come back into focus.
The festival spoke of a “spectacular biopic” and a “brilliant” performance by Masucci (55). Julia Koschitz, David Schütter and Ursula Strauss also star, among others.
At the time, Herrhausen was considered one of the most endangered people in the Federal Republic. The top manager was the victim of an attack on November 30, 1989, which the left-wing extremist terrorist organization Red Army Faction claimed responsibility for. The series tells of his work.
“Rising star of the banking world”
“Alfred Herrhausen was the rising star of the banking world in the 1980s,” said ARD Degeto. “His idea of debt relief for poor countries is making headlines. When he not only represents the interests of the bank and his chancellor friend Kohl with a loan to the USSR, but also supports Gorbachev’s reform plans, the banker enters mined territory in world politics.” With his plans, Herrhausen causes irritation in the USA, but also in the Stasi – now the secret services are on his trail. “While Herrhausen tries to keep his rivals in check within his own house and expands his power to do so, his opponents are also forming outside the bank.”
Herrhausen recently came back into the public eye because he was allegedly a victim of the third generation of the RAF. At the end of February, Daniela Klette, a member of the third generation, was arrested. However, the perpetrators of the 1989 attack could not be identified.
The series is expected to be broadcast in the second half of the year, according to ARD Degeto. “Herrhausen – The Lord of Money” is a production by Sperl Film and Television Production in co-production with ARD Degeto, RBB, SWR, HR and in collaboration with X Films Creative Pool.
