The head of Deutsche Post, Frank Appel, is to become the new chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Telekom. The 60-year-old will stand for election at the Telekom general meeting next April, said Telekom. The control committee also regulated another personnel issue: Telekom boss Timotheus Höttges is to remain at the top of the group for a longer period of time. Appel is to succeed the former Henkel boss Ulrich Lehner as chairman of the supervisory board. The 75-year-old is leaving the supervisory board for reasons of age. Investors such as Deka or Union Investment had already criticized in advance that the incumbent CEO of a Dax group should not also become the supervisory board chairman of another company. However, Appel has already announced that he will hand over part of his duties to Tobias Meyer in the summer of 2022; Meyer is to become Appel’s successor at the top of the Post in spring 2023.
