Mobile phone users book significantly larger amounts of data

Whether navigation apps, streaming portals or online shipping: Anyone who is on the move always reaches for their smartphone and uses applications on the Internet. The data volume is increasing rapidly.
Germany’s cell phone users are booking ever larger ones Amounts of data. Last year, the tariffs resulted in a monthly volume of an average of 19.8 gigabytes, more than twice as much as in 2020, said the comparison portal Check24, referring to contracts concluded via its website. Younger people booked larger quantities than older people.
The volumes have been growing significantly for years. Last year the increase was 43 percent. In order to prevail in the race for customer favor, many mobile phone companies are offering more and more data volumes without increasing their prices. The new generation of mobile communications, 5G, already has greater capacities than its predecessor, 4G/LTE.
The limit at which the transmission speed is temporarily reduced is moving significantly upwards. The volume of data used, in turn, is increasing because consumers watch more videos, use online games and use other data-intensive applications while on the go.
