The use of artificial intelligence in a business environment has so far been poorly tested, so uncertainties are understandable. A survey by the ifo Institute clarifies exactly where these are.

There are great reservations about artificial intelligence (AI) in German companies. In a survey by the Ifo Institute and the personnel service provider Randstad, 86 percent of the HR managers surveyed expressed concerns about the use of AI in their company. They most often justified this with a lack of knowledge (62 percent), legal aspects (48 percent) and a lack of trust in AI (34 percent). One in four HR managers cited a lack of acceptance, and 22 percent see no added value from AI. 19 percent are critical of the large amount of effort required for AI, and 18 percent are critical of the high costs.

For the published study, the economic researchers, together with Randstad, surveyed around 1,000 HR managers from industrial, commercial and service companies. According to this, 18 percent of the companies surveyed use AI in at least one area, and another 35 percent have planned this for the future. In the human resources department, only 5 percent of the companies surveyed use AI, a further 25 percent have planned to do so. The HR managers surveyed see the greatest potential in automation with regard to contracts, salaries and benefits.
