Techno artist Nastasia DJs at Harry Klein – Munich

Even before she had digested the shock of the first days of the war, the Munich techno artist began Nastasia to create a line up. Two days, seven aid initiatives, 20 musicians: That was the concept of “Fundraiser for Ukraine“, a show on “Radio 80 000” as a fundraiser for Ukraine. The idea for the project came from the artist Daniela La Luz. Her family comes from Poland on her mother’s side. She has a connection to the conflict in Eastern Europe, as does her comrade-in-arms Nastasia. The native of Munich, whose real name is Anastasia Tkacheva, has roots in Russia and Ukraine. She wants to show that people of Russian origin are also fighting the war. “The fundraiser was exactly the right project to use my strength in this situation and make a difference,” says Tkacheva.

For two days, DJs played at Radio 80,000 and solicited donations. The platform also hosts Tkacheva’s music show “KBAC”, pronounced kvass – a drink made from black bread and drunk in many Eastern European countries. “In the show I present Soviet and post-Soviet music that I grew up with,” says the artist. At raves, on the other hand, she puts on completely different things: techno in all its facets.

Tkacheva has been a DJ for around twelve years. For her, the techno scene has a special responsibility in view of the war in Ukraine. In recent years, Kyiv has become a popular place for party tourists. “I know many who played there,” says Tkacheva. The solidarity is there, but must be strengthened. “The techno scene is political. Now is exactly the moment when we should strive to take action against this war.” That’s also why they want and Daniela La Luz start a third part of the series “Fundraiser for Ukraine”. Although no date has been set yet, one thing is clear: “For us as musicians, art is the first means of choice to connect people and show common strength and humanity. As individuals, but also in the plural,” says Daniela Bundschus alias Daniela La Luz.

Tkacheva sees it that way too. Next Friday she will be DJing at Harry Klein as a member of the queer-feminist WUT collective. Of course, she’s worried about going to parties in the current situation: “Ultimately, that’s my job. I love music, but I refrained from it for a few weeks.” Now she takes the performance as a challenge to put her emotions into the music and play a strong closing set.
