The problems with an engine were too big: Contrary to what was planned, NASA will no longer send the “Artemis” mission to the moon today – there will be a new attempt on Friday at the earliest.
NASA has canceled the launch of its “Artemis” moon mission scheduled for today. The US space agency said the reason was technical problems with one of the rocket engines. The next possible start dates are now next Friday and Monday next week.
From 2025 manned moon missions again
Shortly before the start scheduled for 12:33 CEST, NASA reported the problems. The engine has not yet reached the required target temperature. One tries to solve the problem with the help of several calculation models. A problem with the tank system had also been reported.
Problems had already arisen during previous tests and the original schedule had been delayed.
The approximately 40-day unmanned test flight of the most powerful carrier rocket to date, the SLS, and the Orion capsule sitting at its tip, are intended to herald the return to manned flights to the moon. NASA wants to send people there again in 2025 at the earliest.
