The recall was published in November. Repair work on the affected vehicles is now to begin.

Mercedes-Benz plans to start repairing hundreds of thousands of vehicles affected by a recall in mid or late January. The exchange is dependent on the software release and the availability of parts, announced the company in Stuttgart.

Until the start of the repair “the vehicle affected by the recall should be driven with particular care and use restricted to the necessary minimum”. The “Bild” newspaper and the “Handelsblatt” had previously reported on it.

Worldwide, Mercedes-Benz has to recall almost 850,000 vehicles to the workshop as part of the recall, according to data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). In Germany, almost 240,000 vehicles are affected. It is about the series GLE / GLS, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, E-Class, GLC, CLS and G-Class with diesel engine from the years of construction 2017 to 2021. Due to a faulty switch valve of the exhaust gas recirculation, it could There is an increased risk of fire, according to the KBA.

A Mercedes-Benz spokesman said the problem was noticed in the course of product monitoring. The carmaker pointed out that the recall had already been published in November. In the affected vehicles, the coolant pump could “have a leak between the coolant and vacuum circuit”, a spokesman explained the technical problem. “Should coolant be applied to electrical switching valves, a continuous rise in the component temperature cannot be completely ruled out over time in individual cases due to an electrochemical reaction.”
