The German national soccer team will have to do without Leroy Sane in the upcoming international matches.
The offensive player allowed himself to freak out in the international match against Austria and was rightly sent off with a red card after he attacked opponent Phillipp Mwene and attacked him physically in the face and neck.
After the game, Sane apologized for the violence to the team and publicly in the mixed zone: “I apologize. The defeat is my responsibility. Not that of the others,” said Sane there: “There was frustration.”

How long will Leroy Sane be banned?
For red cards like Sane’s, FIFA usually stipulates a ban of at least three games.
Sane will definitely miss the next two test matches in March 2024. Since FIFA’s regulations stipulate a minimum ban of three games or a ban for “an appropriate period of time” for “assault, including elbowing, boxing, kicking, biting, spitting or hitting” against anyone involved except the referees, Sane could even be banned for longer as the three games are suspended.
But that hasn’t been decided yet. With a three-game suspension, Sane national coach Julian Nagelsmann would not be available again until the last test match before the European Championships at the beginning of June.
If Sane is suspended for longer than three games, he would also miss the two tests in June and would therefore be out for over six months. The offensive player who has been in such good form recently would go to the European Championships without any (international) match practice.

The decisive factor in the verdict is the disciplinary commission’s assessment. The 27-year-old could be lucky, however, as his offense occurred in a friendly and these are usually treated differently by FIFA than qualifying or tournament games.
Normally, red cards in friendly matches are not punished with bans in subsequent competitions.
So you can assume that Sane Nagelsmann will be available again by the start of the European Championship in his own country at the latest.
