Cross-EM: Klosterhalfen runs to silver

Konstanze Klosterhalfen finishes second at the Cross Country Championships. With that she achieved even more.
5000 meter European champion Konstanze Klosterhalfen won silver at the European Cross Country Championships in Turin and at the same time led the German team to the team title.
The 25-year-old from Leverkusen was only just beaten by Karoline Grøvdal (29:25) in the race over eight kilometers in 26:29 minutes. The Norwegian defended her title with a strong final sprint shortly before the finish.
Behind Klosterhalfen, the German cross-country champion Alina Reh (Berlin/27:19) and Hanna Klein (Tübingen/27:19) finished third and fourth and made the strong performance perfect by winning team gold.
Klosterhalfen, who trains in the USA, was able to celebrate another success this year with her silver medal at the European Championships after she was eliminated at the World Championships in Eugene/USA due to a corona disease. At the European Championships in Munich in August, she was the first German runner to win the title over 5,000 meters. After that, the native of Bonn was also successful in her half marathon debut at the end of October in Valencia and ran 1:05.41 hours, the third best time ever set by a European.
In the men’s category, 1500-meter Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the ten-kilometer race in Turin in 29:33 minutes ahead of Briton Emile Cairess (29:42). The Norwegian was able to repeat his previous year’s success. As the best German runner, Filimon Abraham from Regensburg finished fifth in 29:39 minutes.
