Teachers’ association criticizes Söder’s poaching attempts – Bavaria

The President of the German Teachers’ Association believes that Bavaria’s attempts to poach teachers from other federal states are not very promising. “It won’t work,” said Heinz-Peter Meidinger to the news portal “Buzzfeed”. The teaching profession is a female profession and experience shows that women want to be employed close to where they live. Mobility is low. “No one moves for 3,000 euros,” he explained.

Meidinger accused the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) of campaign tactics. There is an agreement in the Conference of Ministers of Education of the federal states not to undertake any poaching attempts. “But dear Mr. Söder doesn’t care about that in the election campaign,” said Meidinger. “He didn’t cancel the agreement either, he just didn’t stick to it.” Söder had announced that he wanted to counteract the teacher shortage in Bavaria with the help of educators from other federal states.

Head of the State Chancellery Florian Herrmann (CSU) said on Tuesday that Bavaria would pay a flat rate for moving costs if educators from other countries decided to work in Bavaria. Herrmann also advertised the sometimes better pay in Bavaria.
